Welcome Teachers, Librarians, and Administrators!
"First of all, thank you for looking into my fantasy-themed children's thriller horror series. I created these stories for my kids, with my kids, and I would love for more children to discover them. I firmly believe that children who don't read struggle with finding content they have interest in, and I've approached Spookies with the mindset of creating unique stories that children of different backgrounds can enjoy.
"Since my initial reveal of the series I've had many teachers and librarians approach me about purchasing library copies that were NOT paperback. I initially only intended to release paperback copies of the stories while keeping hardcovers exclusive to my Kickstarters. But it became clear I needed to offer an alternative.
"So, we are offering "Library Editions" of each Spookies novel currently published. These library editions are case wrapped (with the cover printed on the hardcover boards) and reformatted from their 5.5"x7.5" sizes to 5.5"x8.5" (the smallest size of hardcover our printer can accommodate).
"These editions are available through purchase at major retailers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Sometime soon we will be making them available through this website at a slight discount. When that happens, books will be printed "on-demand" with our partner, BookVault.
"While I would like to be able to fulfill orders directly, I'm not in a position at this time to do so. You may, however, request signed bookplates that you can put in your library copies. You may send a request either through this website or email spookiesbooks@gmail.com.
"I truly appreciate your interest in my stories and I hope they will find their way into your students hands."
--Sincerely,
Robert Zangari
What are the appropriate reading levels for Spookies stories?
As part of our goal to reach new readers we've partnered with Lexile to get accurate grading for each manuscript. So far, every title has been graded around 600L with some below and above that average. The manuscripts have also been test against the Flesch-Kincaid scale and are between 2.8 and 3.1.
But what's the content like?
Since Robert "dictated" these stories to his children (who have been as young as 3 and as old as 12) he managed to rein in the horror aspects so as to not be too frightening for children. Having an active and participating audience helped formulate the correct tone.
Some readers have classified Spookies as "safe scares" with the characters achieving some sort of triumph over the horror element of the tale.
Library Editions
Each volume in the Spookies series is around 150 pages (roughly 22,000 words). These library editions are the same length as their paperback counter parts.
Below you will find a pdf list of ISBNs for the "Library Editions" of each Spookies book. Depending on your organization's affliation you may be able to order copies directly through out printing partner, IngramSpark (a subsidiary of Ingram).
Alternatively, you can find links to our retailer partners in the carousel below. While it looks like the carousel on the main page which directs readers to purchase paperback copies, the links found below will redirect you to the "Library Edition" listing of the book.
Library Edition Retailer Links
In addition to providing library copies, Robert enjoys going to elementary schools to teach about writing and tapping into one's creativity. His assemblies last between forty-five minutes to an hour with audience participation.
Would you like to request a "School Visit"?
Fill out the contact form below to request a school visit from author Robert Zangari. School visits last around an hour and include a presentation on writing and creativity. The concluding portion of the visit consists of a 20-minute joint-workshop where students will work with Robert to create a short story, proceeded by a 10-minute "story time" of the material developed.
Students are encouraged to finish the story on their own and Robert will provide you with a copy of the recording and if requested a transcript that can be handed out to students.
When requesting a school visit please
Library Edition Copies + School Visit
In conjunction with a school visit, you may request Library Edition copies of the books listed above. Library Edition copies are $12 a piece when purchasing directly through Robert (otherwise they are $18~ at retailers).
Travel
Robert is located in Layton UT. If your school is more than 100 miles away, a travel reimbursement fee will be required. (an average of $70 for every 100 miles as of Spring 2026).
if your school is more than a day's travel on the interstate or requires an airline, a "Travel and Lodging" fee will be required. Travel and Lodging fees will be calculated on an individual basis. If multiple schools in the same district or area want to coordinate a tour of school visits the associated fees can be split among participants.
